Did you hear that peach smoothies FLOATS are on the menu at this Saturday’s Pear and Plum Palooza? It’s true! If my kids come, they will definitely be begging me for one of them! Just last week they saw a food truck selling slushies and were ever hopeful that I’d buy them one!
Although I didn’t get a chance to get a slushie the other day, I promised them I’d make them one at home. I love the taste of plums in a smoothie. Adding other summer fruit like peaches or the berries I froze earlier in the year plus some maple syrup makes this a delicious treat! And why not top it off with a tiny scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream just to make it fun? For my kids, it’s going to take some convincing to get them excited to get back to school. Recipes like this plum slushie might be just the thing!
Plums often take the back seat when it comes to summer produce, but why? They’re so good! As my 5-year-old put it: “the outside just has so much taste!” It’s true, the flavor of the tart skin of plums is unmatched!
I’ll be modifying a recipe I used a few years ago for a blueberry plum smoothie to enjoy with my kids.
There aren’t too many American recipes that call for plums, but in France it’s very common to see them baked into tarts or clafoutis like in these recipes we’ve shared on our blog.
Here are some of our favorite recipes using plums:
Skinny Plum Smoothie
This plum smoothie recipe is chock-full of flavor! You’ll never even notice it has spinach in it! Find the recipe here!
Fruit Tart
This versatile recipe is shown with apricots and black raspberries, but can easily be made with plums and other berries! Find the recipe here!
Clafoutis
Another common dish in France is Clafoutis (Clah-foo-tee). The ingredients are similar to those in crepes, but it’s much thicker with the fruit baked into it. Clafoutis commonly uses cherries, plums or apricots. Try it with the fruit from our orchard! Find the recipe here.
End of Summer French Fruit Tart
This French-inspired fruit tart uses a variety of fruit that’s available at the end of the summer just like what we have now! Find the recipe here.
