FAQ:

What is a CSA and why should I join?

CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture.” By joining our CSA, you become a partner in our orchard. Members purchase a share, also called a membership or subscription, and receive a weekly selection of fresh, farm-grown products during the designated season. A CSA provides consistent access to high-quality produce picked at peak freshness, introduces you to new fruits and vegetables along with delicious recipes, and helps you build a closer connection to where your food comes from. Your support also gives Weaver’s dependable income to care for the orchard and strengthen the local economy.

Our diverse orchard and strong partnerships with other farms from the Carolinas all the way to Canada help ensure you always receive a meaningful share, and when the harvest is especially abundant, you enjoy those benefits too!

How long is the season?

The current summer/fall share is available for up to 16 weeks, from June 24th to October 8th. After that, we’ll offer a fall share from mid October to mid December.

Can I join any time?
YES! Sign up now, and your fee will be pro-rated from now through the end of the season.

What can I expect in my share?

Our CSA is unique because we include 25% fresh FRUIT in every box! We also include ingredients you know and love, (probably) not obscure produce you’ve never seen before!

The contents of shares will vary each week depending on the season, what’s currently being harvested, weather trends, and our goal of offering a wide variety of fresh produce. The majority of what you’ll find in your box is grown right here at Weaver’s Orchard and in the local Berks County area. When needed, we can lean on our extensive distribution network and community of talented farmers and orchards we work closely together with to ensure you always have a diverse and exciting share.

Our shares will typically include 6 to 12 distinct types of fresh produce that change as seasons do. You will also receive unique & fan favorite recipes by email to make the most of that produce, and maybe even introduce delicious meals that you’ve never experienced before!

Weaver’s Orchard is a multi-generational fruit orchard with extensive knowledge and experience in producing some of Berks County’s finest fruit. As such, we’ve placed a larger emphasis on fruit in our shares compared to traditional CSAs.

By Tuesday of each week, we will update our website and send out an email with a tentative list of what will be in our shares that week. Sometimes things don’t go according to plan, and we’ll substitute for produce of equal or higher value.

Do you grow all the produce in the box?

This year, a lot of the vegetables will be our own homegrown. We experienced widespread crop loss on our tree fruit this year along with most of the region, but we’re partnering with growers with similar growing practices to provide fresh produce. Our weekly emails will share details on where the items come from!

What’s the benefit of a CSA?
You can enjoy the convenience of fresh, homegrown produce delivered to a location near you. The quality of this produce is unbeatable! Plus, our weekly emails will link to specific recipes for ways to use it, including fresh salsas, bruschetta, salads, coleslaw and more!

Can I choose what will be in my share each week?

Our CSA share reflects what’s growing well that week. That’s the nature of seasonal eating, and one of the best parts! We can’t customize individual shares currently, but we do our best to keep the mix exciting and varied. Weaver’s Orchard is hard at work developing our CSA program to allow customers to fine tune their shares, with this feature expected to roll out in future seasons.

Members with specific dietary concerns or allergen-related needs should reach out to us before signing up so we can make sure a CSA is a good fit.

Why should I choose Weaver’s CSA?

We’ve been growing fruit and serving our community with fresh produce for over 90 years! You can count on the high quality produce you enjoy in our farm market including berries, melons, veggies and more!

What is the cost?

A large share is $39 per week and a small share is $29 per week if paid in full. Weekly pricing is available, but payment in full gives the best pricing. You’ll receive a generous amount of produce every week, ready to make into your amazing recipes – no delivery fee!

What if I’m on vacation or need to miss a pick-up?

Life happens! Through the GrownBy website and app, you can designate specific weeks as “Vacation Weeks.” Instead of receiving a share that week, you’ll receive credit that can be applied to a future share. Just let us know by Wednesday or Thursday at 11:59 PM depending on your pick-up day, the week before you’ll be away.

If you are unable to let us know before the cutoff, we recommend asking friends and family to collect your share for you. Shares make for a wonderful gift! Just let us know about the change.

Is everything in our share organic or certified?

Weaver’s Orchard practices Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which significantly limits pesticide use. We monitor every crop carefully and make thoughtful, intentional decisions about pest and disease management.

Because we also source from partner farms and orchards to supplement our shares, we can’t guarantee that every item carries a specific certification (organic, etc.). What we can guarantee is that we only partner with farms and orchards that share our values. If you’d like to learn more about our farming practices, visit weaversorchard.com/farming-practices

What happens if there’s a bad growing season?

Weaver’s Orchard and CSA members share in both the good weeks and the harder ones – that’s the nature of the CSA model, and the reason why your membership helps us plan and invest before the season even begins. Most years, the vast majority of your share will be grown right here at Weaver’s Orchard. If weather, pests, or other factors outside our control affect a crop, we’ll do everything we can to source comparable products through our trusted network of farms spanning from right here in Berks County all the way up to Canada. This year in particular, we experienced some crop losses on our tree fruit and some berries, so we will be sourcing from additional farms across the region. We’re honest with our members when things don’t go as planned, and we always aim to keep your box as full and varied as possible.

Are membership fees refundable?

Because of the seasonal and perishable nature of CSA, membership fees are generally non-refundable once the season begins. This is standard across CSA programs and is part of the shared-risk model that makes the whole thing work.

That said, we understand that life is unpredictable. If something significant comes up, please reach out to us directly. We review requests case by case and always try to be fair.

How do I communicate with Weaver’s Orchard about my CSA membership?

The easiest way is through GrownBy, where you can message us directly. You can also always reach us by email at office@weaversorchard.com or by phone at (610) 856 – 7300. We’re farmers first, so we may not respond the same day, but we’ll always get back to you.

We’ll keep you updated throughout the season via email about crop news, recipe ideas, schedule changes, and more. We also post planned share contents every week at weaversorchard.com/CSA.

We hope to get the process going ASAP and will update once that option is available.
