Just a short drive from our orchard, nestled in a peaceful corner of the countryside, you’ll find The Blue Pig Flower Farm—a vibrant and inviting destination that brings the beauty of locally grown blooms to life. Owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo Bryon and Melissa Kauffman, The Blue Pig is more than just a flower farm—it’s a place where nature, creativity, and community flourish side by side.

Bryon and Melissa have transformed their love of the outdoors into a hands-on floral experience that welcomes visitors to slow down and soak in the wonder of God’s creation. With rows upon rows of colorful blossoms and wide-open spaces to explore, The Blue Pig offers the perfect setting for a relaxed outing with friends or family.
One of the highlights of the farm is the chance to cut your own bouquet straight from the fields. Guests are encouraged to grab a pair of scissors and roam the gardens, selecting stems that speak to them and crafting a one-of-a-kind arrangement. For those who prefer to leave the design work to the experts, Melissa’s hand-tied bouquets—thoughtfully composed with her signature artistic touch—are also available and always a stunning choice.
Melissa’s passion for plants is evident in every petal. A lifelong flower lover with a natural green thumb, she carefully tends to each bloom, ensuring they grow to their fullest potential. Bryon shares her appreciation for the land and brings his own friendly energy to the farm—especially if you’re up for a quick game of cornhole or a chat about baseball.

Beyond the flowers, The Blue Pig offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere where guests are invited to stay awhile. Cozy seating areas throughout the property make it easy to relax, enjoy a snack, and connect with friends, whether before or after your bouquet-building adventure. But what truly makes this flower farm bloom is the heart behind it. We sat down with Bryon and Melissa to hear more about their story, the inspiration behind The Blue Pig, and the meaningful work that goes into growing flowers and community. Here’s what they shared:
1. What inspired you to start The Blue Pig Flower Farm?
From the moment we purchased the property and built our home there in 2020, we dreamed about how we could use the property in a unique way. But with multiple kids in college, two of our kids getting married, and both Melissa and me having demanding full-time jobs, there just wasn’t the time to add something else to our plates. As our kids grew and we entered the stage of “empty nesting,” we continued to think about what new adventure Melissa and I could begin together in this new stage of life.
Then in December of 2022, Melissa started having severe headaches and went to the ER, where a large tumor was found in the frontal lobe of her brain. The tumor had grown to a very dangerous size and had to be surgically removed. They were unable to completely remove the tumor because it was wrapped around her optic nerve, so she then underwent 30 days of radiation treatment to kill the remaining tumor. This was followed by months of physical and speech/brain therapy. All of this caused her to have to resign from her position as Head of School at High Point Baptist Academy. With the damage done to her optic nerve, her sight in her left eye has been severely compromised, with normal reading being extremely difficult.
Through all of this, the goodness and mercy of God were overwhelming. The tumor was not cancerous, which was an incredible blessing and something we are so thankful for. The kindness and love that we received from so many people for many months throughout this was something that we will forever be grateful for.
All of this led us to a place where we knew that God was repurposing Melissa for something new. Throughout her recovery, her garden became very important to her, and she would practice her speech therapy assignments on her plants and vegetables. As we thought and prayed about what this repurposing would look like, the idea of a flower farm came to us as the perfect way for Melissa to spend time doing something that she is skilled and passionate about… growing and caring for flowers and plants (she has always had a green thumb), as well as to minister to and encourage others through flowers and the experience of coming to our farm and spending time in God’s creation. So in 2023, The Blue Pig Flower Farm was born, with 2024 being our first year of producing and selling our flowers.

2. How did you decide on a name for your flower farm?
We get asked this question all the time. Years ago, our property was a pig farm, and many people who knew of it just called it that… “the pig farm.” The Blue Pig part comes in because Melissa and I were engaged in Cape May, NJ, and had dinner that night at one of our favorite restaurants… The Blue Pig. Many years later, we were back in Cape May—of course, at The Blue Pig—when we found out that everything fell into place to purchase “the pig farm.” So while there in Cape May, we decided to call our property The Blue Pig Farm, and when we decided on the flowers, we added that to the name… The Blue Pig Flower Farm.
3. What do you love most about running the flower farm together as a couple?
Two things… There is a ton of work behind the scenes to get flowers to the point where they are beautiful and ready to become part of a bouquet. There is prepping the soil, germinating seeds in our basement for months, transplanting to the fields, irrigation, the stress of weather that doesn’t cooperate… I could go on and on. But then to finally see the “girls,” as Melissa calls them, start to take off and become breathtaking blooms is an exciting moment of crossing the finish line together after so much work.
The other part is the interactions and conversations that we are able to have together with people who either come to see us on the farm or who we have the opportunity to bring some flowers to. It allows us to share our story about what God has done in our lives and to encourage them in a unique way.
4. Can you describe a favorite moment you’ve shared with guests on the farm?
We love hosting our Saturday U-picks when we open up our flower fields and get to talk with people who we have just met for the first time. We try to spend a few minutes with everyone that comes to get to know them and talk to them about the flowers. There are so many wonderful people who have stopped by, and we love this part of our work.
5. What’s your favorite flower to grow—and why?
Melissa’s favorite flower is Bupleurum, or “Bups” as we call them. She loves them because they can beautifully stand on their own, but they also make all of the blooms that they are grouped with better.

6. How do faith and nature intersect for you in this work?
The entire existence of our farm is grounded in our faith and belief that God brought us through the past years of our trial with Melissa’s tumor so that He could use us to create something that could both encourage people and also point them to Jesus. Our faith is also what we rely on when all of the things that seem to be out of our control may be against us… like weather, seeds that don’t want to germinate, critters that see our flower field as their dinner buffet—but we know that God is good, and He loves us and will give us what we need to see us through.
7. What’s something most people don’t realize about growing flowers or running a flower farm?
Oh boy… there are a bunch of things. Two big ones:
- The main one that we are still learning is just the amount of work and planning that it takes to get all different types and variations of flowers to a point where they are blooming together at the right time. For instance, work for next summer’s blooms will start this fall and doesn’t stop until they are harvested next summer, and there are hundreds of hours that will go into this process.
- How dependent farmers are on the weather. This is where you just have to trust that God will provide the right amount of sun, rain, and warmth at the right time. But we certainly have a whole new appreciation for all of the farmers whose lives depend on the growth of a crop.
8. Do you have any exciting plans or dreams for the future of the farm?
We certainly have thoughts and dreams around expanding on the experience that our guests have when they come to the farm—possibly to include events on a larger scale. Our daughter’s wedding was on our farm, and it was absolutely beautiful, so we do think about what that could look like as part of our business model. Other things, like possibly adding animals, are something we think about as well. We can’t wait to see what the future holds!
As partners in local agriculture and fellow champions of homegrown beauty, we’re thrilled to offer flowers from The Blue Pig Flower Farm right here at our orchard. Whether you stop by the farm for a visit or pick up a bouquet while gathering fruit in our fields, we hope you’ll fall in love with their blooms just as much as we have. Each stem reflects the care, creativity, and faith that Bryon and Melissa pour into their land—and we’re honored to share a piece of that with you. It’s more than just a bouquet—it’s a reminder of the beauty that can bloom when roots run deep, both in soil and in purpose.
