School Tours, 2010

ABOUT 2010 FALL TOURS

September 20 – November 4

All fall tours will be scheduled weekdays, Monday – Thursday

Johnny Appleseed Preschool Tour

Our desire is for your students to experience a day on the farm through all five senses!

We take a hike into the orchard, using our eyes to see the various colors of apples. As we talk about how apples grow students can feel the texture of the apple they pick.

When we visit the warehouse, there are three learning stations. The students will smell the wonderful aroma of apples in the cold storage area, watch the sorting process the apples go through in preparation for marketing and observe the cider-making process.

There are sounds of the farm all along the way!

The tour concludes with tasting. A snack of our fresh apple cider and pretzels will be served. Also, each student will be able to take the apple they picked along home with them!

Safety at the Orchard:

Because we are a working farm, we have trucks, tractors and workers moving around the property. This enables the students to get a true taste of the farm as well as provide opportunity to teach safety. We ask all participants; students, teachers and parent chaperones to:

  • Remain behind the tour guide at all times.
  • Pay attention to instructions (when the tour guide is speaking – all others should be listening).
  • Keep all body parts inside the wagon when on the hay ride.
  • Wear comfortable clothing including good walking shoes. Gravel paths may be difficult to traverse especially when coming down the hill.
  • Chaperones and teachers are responsible for students. Our guides are able to teach about the farm, but you know your students. Our guides will ask if your students and chaperones are all with you before moving on to the next location.
