Pumpkins
Believe
is or not... a pumpkin is really a squash. And it is actually considered
to be a fruit.
Before
the discovery of corn in the early American colonies, pumpkins were
the staple food found in all households.
Pumpkins
are relatively easy to grow and are actually raised in 6 of the
7 continents. Take a guess which one you can't fine any on... Antarctica.
You
can actually eat the flowers of pumpkin plants.
They
are made up of about 90 percent water.

Pumpkin
Pickin' Tips
If a hollow
sound is made when you drum on a pumpkin, then it is ready to be
picked. Also check out the skin of the pumpkin. If it is hard when
you press on it and almost feels like a shell it is ripe and ready.
Many
of the leaves around the pumpkin will be a yellow-green color.
