Pumpkins

Believe is or not... a pumpkin is really a squash. And it is actually considered to be a fruit.

Before the discovery of corn in the early American colonies, pumpkins were the staple food found in all households.

Pumpkins are relatively easy to grow and are actually raised in 6 of the 7 continents. Take a guess which one you can't fine any on... Antarctica.

You can actually eat the flowers of pumpkin plants.

They are made up of about 90 percent water.


Pumpkin Pickin' Tips

If a hollow sound is made when you drum on a pumpkin, then it is ready to be picked. Also check out the skin of the pumpkin. If it is hard when you press on it and almost feels like a shell it is ripe and ready.

Many of the leaves around the pumpkin will be a yellow-green color.
