Strawberry season is officially here! For a few weeks now my husband and I have been "sneaking" up to the patch with our boys just to snitch a few of the early berries. Do they ever taste good!
Our two-year-old delights in running up and down the rows and gobbling up anything with a hint of red and sometimes even the white ones. Our four-year-old has more refined tastes and picks the ripest ones. It's so much fun to watch them delight in these delicious berries.

It's asparagus season! Thankfully this uniquely flavored vegetable has a pretty long season in Pennsylvania - from April to June. It seems like everyone has their favorite way of preparing asparagus, so we asked our Facebook fans how they liked to eat asparagus. Little did they know, their recipe suggestions would be featured on our blog! Here's what they said...

The last time I went into serious diet mode, I lost 20 pounds. After hitting that milestone, I didn't exactly fall off the wagon. I jumped. I'd had enough of artificial food: diet soda, fat-free dressing, imitation sour cream . . . I wanted real food. And so I ate it--too much of it, unfortunately. After a few years, I was back where I started. I had to do something, and buying bigger clothes was not an option. But how could I lose weight without eating fake food? And how could I finally keep it off?

I've been craving raw vegetables this winter, and sometimes traditional leafy green salads get a little bit boring. Plus, I'm always trying to work herbs like parsley and dark green vegetables like kale into my diet. So I adapted this recipe from a recipe shared by one of our teachers during one of our cooking classes this past summer.

The Big Game Sunday is almost here! I always look forward to this party in February but not necessarily just for the football--I'll admit it--I anticipate the scrumptious food and the party (my dad is awesome at whipping up decadent treats)!

I recently came across the book "Joy Bauer's Food Cures: Eat Right to Get Healthier, Look Younger and Add Years to Your Life." According to the author's website, "Joy Bauer MS, RD, is America's favorite and most trusted nutrition expert. Her mission is to improve the health of our nation; she believes it's never too late or too early to reap the benefits of healthy living."

"Did you use up the mushrooms in your omelette this morning?" I asked my husband. "No,I don't think so," he replied. From that conversation, I determined that I must have mushrooms in my refrigerator still, so I decided not to buy any more before dinner. I had thawed some chicken and planned to whip up some honey mustard sauce and then bake the chicken with mushrooms, onions and Swiss cheese. Well, my husband was right. He didn't use up the mushrooms. I did. I had cooked them earlier that week but still somehow pictured them sitting at the edge of the top shelf of my fridge, waiting to be used. So, I had to think quick about what I'd make for dinner now. I chopped the chicken and threw it in a frying pan with some taco seasoning and a single green pepper. For a minute, I had thought that these fajitas had "saved" the night. We sat down and began to eat, and I quickly realized that there was not much substance to what we were eating.

About a year into our marriage, my husband Justin and I decided to challenge ourselves and see how much we could save on groceries while improving our diets. (Easier said than done!) I've learned that there isn't really a quick fix or set plan to follow at the grocery store since prices are constantly fluctuating.

Every time Apple Season rolls around I begin to get a craving for my Dad's apple dip. He developed this recipe for my brother and I when we were younger-- it was his ploy to get us to eat more fruit. (I think it worked!) On Saturday, my four-year-old and I went for a walk through the orchard and picked a few apples. On Sunday, I was trying to come up with a creative snack idea for my son's first day of preschool, so I made this scrumptious apple dip. It was such a hit with my boys I had to seal it in a container and hide it at the back of my refrigerator.

One cool morning last week I sat on my front porch sipping coffee smelling the tantalizing scents of cider donuts frying nearby. As I sat, I also noted that the flurry of activity that usually surrounds my home had picked up to a frantic hustle and bustle of organized chaos. I watched my father in law pull up the drive with a tractor just as another tractor pulled up to the barn with a wagon full of apples-- it suddenly occurred to me that our apple season has arrived once again!
